Lost Mines Of Phandelver: 1 – The Beginning

In our first session, our heroes:

Kui-Kui Valefor, the Human Noble Fighter,

Viggo of Wandervil, the Human Druid,

Euphemia “Mia” Tosscobble, the Halfling Rogue,

Count Erspell, the Elvish Mage,

& Eorlund Granitefella, the Dwarvish Cleric

Set out on their journey to deliver supplies from Neverwinter to Phandalin for Gundren Rockseeker. After a brief chat introducing themselves (which seemed like a weird thing to do after having travelled together for 3 days at this point) the group happened upon two dead horses in the middle of the road. Once the group was sure there was no one waiting to ambush them, Kui-Kui checked the horses… and was then ambushed by 4 goblins, who promptly shot him in the ass. And thus, their first battle commenced, in which Viggo was knocked unconscious and Eorlund showed Kui-Kui the correct way to decapitate a goblin.

Mia leads the interrogation of a surviving goblin (with Erspell translating) to find that the goblins had captured their employer and his escort and had taken them to their hideout. The goblin gave the group some valuable information, but talks were brought to an abrupt end when Eorlund crushed the goblin under his hammer, killing him instantly/

The group hitched up their wagon and made their way to the goblin’s hideout, noticing that alongside dozens of goblin tracks in the dirt where what looked like, two large drag tracks, which they believed belonged to their employers. With Eorlund leading the way, he noticed a snare on the ground, which Viggo got caught in whilst trying to disarm it. Mia managed to climb the tree to cut Viggo down, and Kui-Kui was there ready to catch him. The group carried on vigilantly looking for traps, but unfortunately missed a pitfall, which Eorlund fell hard into.

At the entrance to the cave, Viggo noticed two goblins, who looked like they should be on guard, were goofing off, behind some thickets. Mia managed to sneak around without the goblins noticing, and in 12 seconds flat, she had slit one goblins throat and shot the other with her bow.

On entering the cave, Mia came face to face with three wolves, to which Viggo quickly calmed and released out of the cave, one wolf decided to stay with its liberator (ironically, not of its own accord).

Behind the wolves’ pen was a steep incline leading up to a cavern from which the team could see the glow of a fire. Mia scaled the slope to scout out the area. Poking her head over the top she spotted two goblins, a large wolf and a Bugbear (Unkown to the group as Klarg, the leader of the goblins). Before she could be spotted, Mia hitched up a rope and headed back down to tell the others what she saw.

Erspell climbed up the rope and tried to put the beasts to sleep, but only the goblins succumbed to the spell, and took the Klarg’s Morningstar to the face for his efforts, knocking him out cold. Mia stuck an arrow in the bugbear but was taken down by the wolf. All looked grim until the rest of the group climbed up to add their support.

Eorlund took a swing at the bugbear with his hammer, but his swing was caught by the bugbear. Klarg’s smugness was short-lived as Kui-Kui swiftly cut off his arms. The bugbear fell dead as Viggo decapitated his pet wolf.

Once freed from the wolfs grasp, Mia used her bow to get back onto her feet, pried the wolf’s head from her arm, spun around and 180 no-scoped a goblin that had come to see what all the commotion was.

With a room full of stolen merchandise, a cave filled with goblins left and their employers still not found, the adventure continues…
