Lost Mines Of Phandelver: 2 – Hello Dave
In our second session, our heroes:
Kui-Kui Valefor, the Human Noble Fighter,
Viggo of Wandervil, the Human Druid,
Euphemia “Mia” Tosscobble, the Halfling Rogue,
Count Erspell, the Elvish Mage,
& Eorlund Granitefella, the Dwarvish Cleric
Having bested Klarg, our heroes raided the stolen supplies for anything that could be useful. Kui-Kui helped himself to the bugbears Morning Star (with Erspell’s fresh blood on it) itching to try it out.
Mia tried to scout ahead to see if any other goblins were in the area and spotted two next to a large pool of water. Hoping to take them out Mia fired a shot… and hit a lever causing the waters to flush downstream, alerting a third goblin keeping watch of the stream to their presence.
A shooting match took place between Mia and the goblins, who unfortunately came out on top, with an arrow to the chest causing Mia to fall unconscious.
The rest of the group quickly took up arms to protect their comrade, with Erspell firing Rays of Frost in all directions (not hitting anything though) and Viggo doing his best to help keep Mia in a stable condition, whilst setting his wolf thrall on the goblins. Eorlund jumped at the chance to smite some more foul goblins, but his swing was too wild, hitting a small pocket of obsidian in the cave wall, his trusty Warhammer shattered, not to be disheartened, Eorlund quickly switched to his hand axe and chopped up his foe. Kui-Kui was just as wildly swing his new Morning-Star, sending the ball sailing over the goblins heads, but he quickly learned how to control his new weapon, caving in goblins skull against a wall, almost in homage to Eorlund’s lost Warhammer.
Crossing a bridge over the cavern, the group heard chattering of a large group of goblins, amongst the noise they heard 2 humans, one begging to for his life, the other swearing to kill the goblins. Amongst the chatter, Erspell could make out one Goblins talking about how much he hated their leader, Klarg, and how he wished he was dead.
One goblin in the room heard the group talking about their plan of attack and went to investigate, but all he found was Mia’s short sword in his gut. They then heard another goblin, seemingly checking on his friend, to which Erspell in flawless goblin, imitated “Fred the Goblin” and sent him away.
Mia walked into the cave politely addressing the goblins and informing them that their leader had been slain. The biggest goblin in the room (Yeemik) grabbed one of the humans which Mia recognized as Sildar Hallwinter, the escort for Gundren Rockseeker. And threatened to kill him if the intruders took one more step. Mia told the goblin that they mean them no harm, they have killed Klarg and wish to just have the human returned unharmed. Yeemik agreed they have done him a favour, so he shall spare the first human, but not the second human. Holding the unknown human over a long drop, Erspell used his quick thinking to untie the humans binding with Mage hand. With his bindings removed, the human was dropped but quickly grabbed Yeemik, pulling him down with him, turning in midair to land on the goblin we are introduced to…
Dave, the Human Folk Hero Fighter
…as he lands in a three-point pose smashing the leader goblin into the ground, killing him instantly.
The remainder of the goblins where so awestruck by the display, they surrendered without question.
After releasing Sildar, he informed the group that the goblins had taken Gundren to the goblins base, Cragmaw Castle.
Leaving the cave (and the goblins to the fate of Viggo’s wolf) the group continued to Phandalin, where they hoped to recover from their wounds and find more information about the castle.
With the wagon of goods recovered and a new member added to the team, the adventure continues…
