Case 3.11 Stakeout
The plan was simple: give Thetunk a blood bag, follow him to the drop off point and then follow whoever picks it up. They learned it was never the same guy twice who collected… well, at least never all the same guys twice. The parts never seemed to match up. Despite Jericho’s insistence, there was never an agreed-upon time to make the drop-off. Thetunk would go and could be gone for hours before someone picked up the bag. So, if they planned to watch, they might need to be in for the long haul.
Everyone got into the van as they drove to the edge of the Lich district, where there were the remains of a park, Madalyne stayed at the police station at Rezar’s request, knowing now she was a conduit, he didn’t want to risk taking her there. Thetunk and Eddie jumped out of the van and headed for the park, the Bugbear found the one undamaged bench in the area, and sat down, placing a brown paper bag next to him, Eddie meanwhile found a hiding spot to watch, keeping an invisibility gadget in hand. 4 hours passed before a someone came shambling into the park. An enormous figure, draped in a black cloak, slowly walked towards Thetunk. Eddie radioed the guys in the van that something was happening. The figure picked up the bag, turned around and started heading back the way it came. Eddie activated his invisibility and started tailing it. Jericho started the van and tried to follow, but kept a decent distance.
The figure led Eddie into the Lich district, an area that made the Devil’s district look like paradise. There were no citizen races to be seen, and the law had abandoned this place, along with God and all hope. Monsters walked freely and street vendors openly sold illegal goods, including human flesh. Jericho had trouble following in the van, but Blaine used his locate object spell to keep track of the blood bag.
After following for at least 45min, the figure came up to a building, threw open the doors to a storm cellar and made its way down. Eddie waited for the rest of the squad to arrive before moving in.
Rezar asked if he could be released, as he had played his part. The officers were initially reluctant as they shouldn’t leave convicts in their charge out of sight. But Rezar reminded them they had left Thetunk in the park back in the Devil’s District! They let Rezar go on the condition that he collected Thetunk and went back to the station to get Madalyne. Rezar agreed and left, shifting into his were-boar form to not raise suspicion.
Jericho and Fingle opened the heavy metal doors, and the officers descended into the basement.
