Tomb of Annihilation: 6
Dear Skye,
Our journey is taking us deeper into both the physical and mystical jungle. We freed an aarakocra named Nephyr, held captive by the pterafolk at Firefinger. In gratitude, he promised to speak highly of us to Asharra, the aarakocra leader at Kir Sabal, and suggested we might be granted the Dance of the Seven Winds – a temporary gift of flight.
However, before Nephyr could escape, we had to deal with the remaining pterafolk. Our stealthy approach was foiled, and we were forced to battle the creatures high up in the caverns of the tower. It was during this battle that Azaka revealed her true form – a weretiger. It was a sight to behold, Skye, as she stood proud, her eyes ablaze with determination. Seki also revealed his lycanthropy, transforming into a yeti-like creature to join the fray.
We fought fiercely, using every tool and talent at our disposal. I aided the party with spells while Angle held the frontline, his magic creating a deadly barrier to the pterafolk. De’leon deftly maneuvered in the air, his rapier finding its mark again and again. Dolores, with her ever-present humor, even turned the pterafolk’s own weapons against them with her spiritual magic.
After a grueling battle, we were victorious, with only the pterafolk alpha, Nrak, escaping into the night, swearing vengeance. With the danger passed, Nephyr was able to fly free. The relief in his eyes, Skye, was a sight I won’t soon forget.
We found ourselves at the top of Firefinger, the view of Chult spreading out beneath us like a wild, untamed tapestry. Among the spoils, we found a carved wooden tiger mask that Azaka had been seeking. Her gratitude was palpable as she clutched it close.
Descending the tower, we found Pegasus contentedly feasting on the fallen pterafolk. We moved away from Firefinger and settled down for a well-deserved rest.
Being around Nephyr reminded me so much of you, Skye. It was a bittersweet feeling. I miss you dearly, and it is my hope that our actions here will ensure the safety of all aarakocra, including you, my dear.
Until my next letter,
Mugen
