Tomb of Annihilation: 4
Dear Skye,
Our time in the city of Port Nyanzaru has come to an end, and we have begun our journey into the heart of the Chultan jungle. But before we left, we had one more spectacle to witness – Angle and De’leon’s daring fight in the gladiatorial arena. Though they were defeated, they fought bravely and earned the respect of many, including a merchant prince’s envoy who offered us an invitation to purchase enchanted weapons and armors.
We visited the Temple of Savras one last time, where Grandfather Zitembe shared some troubling visions with us. He spoke of a jungle city far to the south, surrounded by cliffs and crawling with snakes, and a black obelisk draped in vines. He sensed a potent evil connected to these places, which I fear we may encounter on our journey.
We spent our final night in the city at the luxurious House of Repose inn. It was a welcome respite, as I knew we would soon miss the comforts of civilization. The next morning, we met with Azaka and began our trek into the jungle. Dolores took charge of navigating our canoe up the River Tiryki, towards Firefinger.
In the jungle, every day brings a new challenge. On our first day, we were attacked by a constrictor snake, which we managed to fend off. The following day passed uneventfully, but on the third, we were accosted by another snake. This time, a friendly tabaxi hunter saved us and warned us about the undead in the area.
We’ve had to adapt quickly to the harsh environment. With no rain, we resorted to gathering river water and cleansing it of diseases with Dolores’s clerical magic. One evening, we stumbled upon a group of explorers being attacked by ghouls. We intervened, dispatching most of the ghouls and driving the rest away.
The explorers warned us about the vicious pterafolk roosting at Firefinger, where we are headed. De’leon used his druidic magic to predict another unusually dry day ahead. We are being tested, Skye, but we remain unyielding, guided by the promise of our mission.
I miss you more with each passing day. I carry your memory in my heart, and it gives me the courage to face the challenges that lie ahead. Know that every step I take, every battle I fight, is for you.
With all my love,
Mugen
