Tomb of Annihilation: 1

Dear Skye,

I hope this letter finds you well in the arms of Kelemvor. I find myself in the humid yet vibrant city of Port Nyanzaru, on the northern coast of Chult. It is a land alive with sounds, color, and the heavy weight of humidity on the air, quite unlike anything back home. Our journey here was courtesy of Syndra Silvane, a friend and benefactor, who teleported us right into the heart of this bustling city.

We have been drawn into a web of local politics, Skye. We were introduced to the merchant princes who hold power here, their influence spreading over the city like the canopy of trees over the jungles. Ekene-Afa, the former gladiator, Ifan Talro’a, the grumpy beastmaster, Jessamine, the purveyor of poisons, Jobal with his jungle guides, Kwayothé, with her delightful perfumes, Wakanga O’tamu, the wizardly merchant, and Zhanthi, the gemstone trader. Quite a collection, don’t you think?

Among them, Wakanga has shown us kindness, inviting us for dinner and promising guidance. He suggested we consider unofficial guides for our journey into the jungle. He seems trustworthy, Skye, in the way you’d trust a snake not to bite… as long as you’re not a mouse. We also had some fun with Ifan Talro’a. De’leon and I used our telepathic abilities to tease him, a good-natured jest to lighten our moods.

Our friend Dolores led us to the Temple of Savras. There, we met a man of faith, Grandfather Zitembe, being harassed by some thugs from the Zhentarim. We intervened, Skye, as we always did when we saw injustice. Zitembe thanked us and told us about a man named Artus Cimber the Zhentarim are searching for. It seems our journey may be intertwined with his. Zitembe also offered to help us with the Soulmonger and the death curse, and he’s performing a divination ritual that might give us clues. I’ll let you know how that goes.

In a city full of surprises, Skye, we encountered a rampaging ankylosaurus near the harbor. A powerful beast, with a hide as tough as an iron shield and a tail that can fell a tree. De’leon, our nimble fairy friend, tried to distract it but took a serious hit from the beast. My own attempts to subdue it were met with a similar fate, but I believe I did manage to land a few good blows. Angle, in his usual endearing cluelessness, joined the fray late but managed to land some solid hits with his maul. Our sweet Dolores, ever the caregiver, healed our wounds and even managed to break through the ankylosaurus’ armor with a crossbow bolt. In the end, it was Seki, our excitable blood hunter, who brought the beast down with a well-placed shot. Don’t worry, we made sure it was alive but incapacitated.

It feels strange, Skye, to undertake this journey without you by my side. But I hold onto your memory as my guide, your love as my strength, and your spirit as my shield. Please keep watching over me.

With all my love,

Mugen
