World Converged: 5
Journal Entry 5: Kitty Whippin’s
Ty jumped into action first, sending his Echo out to attack the creature. The copy landed a hit on it, but was with a flash of its claws, was destroyed. Goodflower went to help the injured goblin (not the one being used as a chew toy). Encore hit it with some glitter bomb spell. And Seraph, of course, being unable to do anything that makes sense, WALKED UP A FUCKING TREE!!
The cat… creature turned and ran from us. I thought maybe we had scared it off, but it turned around and charged back towards us. Which is also what I thought might happen, so I manifested one of daggers, took a few deep breaths to steady my vision (looking at this creature felt strange, like it was in multiple places at once) and as soon as it hit the glitter again, I threw the dagger hitting it square in the face; The creature cried out in pain. It still took a few swipes at me, which, yeah, hurt like hell. It then ran away again, trying to set up another charge attack on us. But once again, I steadied my aim, and hit it true once more in the head. The creature looked bad at this point. It looked like it was going to run away again, but Goodflower pleaded to let it go. I kept my blades out just in case, but Ty’s Echo brought its glaive down into the cat’s head as it tried to run. The beast lay motionless, dead.
Then, in the strangest move yet, Seraph tried to insult the goblin by offering it food (she later told me that the whole thing was a ruse to get Peppercorn to donate food to the goblins). Turns out the goblin was part of the raiding party from the wedding. He and his brother had fled at the end. His brother hadn’t made it (they were the one the beast killed). They introduced themselves and Nolag. I asked them if they knew anything about the break in at Benoits manor. He seemed to not know, but said they would take us to their village, and maybe we could find someone there who would know.
We followed the goblin for a while, through the woods that ran along the Tumerin gorge. He led us to an encampment, and by the Raven Queen was this place dire. I thought the slums in Raziel were bad. This was… desolate. Nolag called out to the other goblin in their language and we started handing out food. They did so considerately, allowing the children to eat first, then the weak. It was nice to see.
When the camp had been fed, we were approached by an old ragged looking bugbear. They introduced themselves as Elder Rulk, and invited us to their tent to talk.
When we questioned him about Raphael, he knew who we spoke of. He referred to him as “The man with yellow eyes.” Honestly, I must have missed that detail. Rulk told us how he and his goblin companions had escaped from their Hobgoblin slavers in Morkadan and had fled here, but still they worried about being recaptured, and the constant moving had left them in dire straights, which he felt Raphael took advantage of, promising them food and riches. Several groups left, believing Raphael’s promises, including his two sons.
Rulk implored us to go find his sons and try to speak some sense into them and to have the return alive (I saw that look you gave me Cow). Rulk gave us directions, and we set off.
It took about 3 hours, but a tall, moss-covered tower appeared over the horizon. It was quite old looking, anyone would have thought abandoned. But as we approached, we noticed some signs of life, a few moments around the grounds, sounds of grunting.
We decided that the best course of action was to make camp in the woods nearby and wait for nightfall, then one of us would sneak in and scope out defences.
Just after midnight, we all awoke and prepped our next move. I volunteered to sneak in, because of my general dark appearance and my nimbleness in the dark. They agreed, but then the Cow spoke up, saying he should go with too. I didn’t think that would be a good idea… unit he just turned into a fucking spider! So yeah, I pick up Goodspider and run into the encampment.
Sitting around a fire we found 6 goblins and 2 bugbear (probably Rulks kids) Most of them are asleep except one goblin who I think was supposed to be taking watch, but they were so close to drifting off themselves it was no big issue to sneak past them.
I went up to the door of the tower. It was about as worn as everything else in this place, could have easily broken it down, but with everyone else a ways back, I didn’t want to risk it.
I set down Goodspider, and they scurried under the door…
I wonder what they’ll find… I hope no-one treads on them XD.
Finn out.
