Having fought off Venomfang, the party took shelter in the tower and made camp for the night, certain the dragon would not return.
The next morning, the party left the tower and decided to explore the remaining housing in the town, heading first to the large building to the east of the tower. Eorlund splintered off from the group to check around the back of the building, while the rest examined the front.
Entering the building, the group noticed the piles of ashes on the ground begin to move, they had stumble upon another nest of zombies!
Drawing their weapons the party (minus Eorlund) charged into the house and started slashing. One zombie slammed into Kui-Kui, causing his sword’s curse to activate, But before the rage could fully take a hold of him, Mia snuck around and stabbed the zombie in the back, dropping it to the ground. Kui-Kui shook off the rage and regained his focus. Hearing more shuffling down the nearby hallway, Kui-Kui searched and found another room with a couple more zombies in. Holding his position at the door way, the zombies formed a queue trying to attack him. Mia wanting to be involved in the action, slid between Kui-Kui and the zombie’s legs, raising from the ground with a mighty slash to the back of the undead, which in most cases, it would have killed anything else, by with a guttural roar, the zombie maintained its position and turned to Mia. But this gave Kui-Kui the opportunity he needed to strike the actual final blow.
Not finding anything else of note in the building, the party headed outside, to find Eorlund, being chased around a tree by a zombie.
Eorlund’s excursion the rear of the building had not been very successful, as he came across a wooden door, but failed to do any damage to it with his axe, but it did gain the attention of the zombie on the other side of the door. When the dwarf finally broke down the door, he came face to face (or face to lower abdomen… you know… cause he’s short) with a very angry zombie. Drawing his Warhammer, Eorlund struck at the zombie, but the zombie hit him back harder. Now deciding a physical confrontation wouldn’t go his way, Eorlund decided to run away, but the zombie gave chase.
Erspell threw a fire bolt at the zombie, killing it, and Eorlund sheepishly re-joins the party.
Mia suggested that they report their success with the dragon to the druid in the south west of town.
Delighted that the group had returned successful, Reidoth offered the group positions within his organisation, the Emerald Enclave. Mia, Eorlund and Erspell stepped forward and where initiated into the enclave. Needing to report to his higher ups, the druid turned into a squirrel and scurried off.
With a literal dragons hoard worth of gold between them, the group headed back to Phandalin. With the thought of storming Cragmaw Castle in their minds, the party decided to first spend their gold on new weapons, armour and equipment.
Mia also purchased a mastiff from Barthen, along with some armour and a saddle for him.
The town of Thundertree is now safe and the rebuilding can start, and the dreaded Cragmaw Castle lays ahead, can the party save Gundren?
